I'm amazed by how well this inexpensive antenna works. It was especially easy to install since it's being used on a flat screen TV on a swiveling wall mount and all the ports on the TV are easily accessible. The preliminary installation was a matter of screwing the antenna's coax cable connector into the antenna port on the TV and then slipping the edge of the rectangular antenna under the edge of a cold air return vent cover on a wall about 6 feet above the floor. I'll hide the coax cable later and might even run it inside an interior wall and mount the rectangular antenna in an attic. How easy it is to program a TV to use this antenna depends on how your TV is designed and how knowledgeable you are about how your TV works. After installation, auto-programming of the TV to find all the local channels took maybe 5 minutes after I started the process running. I didn't realize that there were so many over-the-air TV stations here in the Kansas City area - 59? I haven't watched many of the stations yet but the ones we will be watching most come in crystal clear. What a stunning bargain!

Five Stars DESPITE the Suspect (at best!) Range Statement!

"OK … so I was sceptical of this antenna. I have had other flat panel antennas in the past (including one I made myself) and while they are serviceable in urban areas, the claim for the range of operation is ALWAYS overstated. This antenna is no exception.

In the age of digital broadcasts, the reception range is « not what it used to be », especially considering that each « channel » usually has multiple streams crammed into the total bandwidth. Add to that, ‘indoor’ antennas such as this always have to deal with obstructions - walls, glass surfaces, reflections, etc. If your construction has metal components such as studs, steel or aluminum siding, etc., then reception will be even more problematic.

The REAL solution for long distance (‘DX’) reception of UHF and VHF signals is a properly designed and well made outdoor antenna or even two. There are no exceptions to physics.

So how can this antenna claim to have a 200 mile range? Well, if your installation is in an apartment that is VERY high up and there are plenty of VERY strong signals from 200 miles away with NO obstructions AND the weather is perfect AND the antenna placement is perfect AND the tuner in the TV or receiver is PERFECT then I ***SUPPOSE*** you might be able to capture signals from 200 miles away but I would bet a substantial sum that even then it won’t be a high quality viewing experience.

So why do I give this 5 starts? Well, I knew what all the issues would be and totally discounted the range claim, especially for my particular installation. Getting a better/stronger signal for some of the weak stations and maybe picking up some additional stations seemed to be worth taking a chance on this antenna.

And it delivered. The coax cable supplied is long enough for my situation; I was able to run it from the TV, under an area rug and up the opposite wall to a window location. I have two nits to pick with the cable, however they are not worth any deduction. First I would like to have a connector at the antenna end so the supplied cable could be swapped out for a longer cable or even shorter, depending on needs. Second, the supplied cable is pretty thin and seems flimsy compared to standard coax, say RG6, not to mention heavier gauge cables. If this cable were to be snaked and have to go around obstructions, then I can see it being damaged fairly easily. MOST people will not have these issues, of course. For a more rugged or complex installation, this isn’t the antenna you would choose.

All that said, I did get improved signal quality in my situation, AND I picked up an additional station, one I didn’t even know existed. So FOR THE PRICE, this is an excellent value. It is well packaged, has intelligent documentation and contact information and performed well within its design parameters.

Don’t expect miracles! But as long as you understand what your particular situation really requires, this may fit the bill."

It is a well-designed piece with great reception and could easily become a good decorative part of the living room. Its design is elegant, minimalist and resembles those high-end speakers. It is also very light. Installation was easy with clear instructions. Right out of the box, the unit picked up 100+ channels at first scan, then later picked up 114 channels! While some of these channels still experience interruptions due to the proximity of the unit to my HVAC and kitchen, it still maintained over 20+ 4K channels, another 30 something HD channels, followed by the rest at 480i quality, which is the best I have seen in any indoor antenna. Of course, an HDTV helps (I have the standard TCL you can find at Costco), but still, very impressive. Will buy 2 more for my other TVs.

Was skeptical due to the price, but I had gotten tired of paying $400 a month for nothing but basic cable when all I truly watch is about five or six channels finally cut. The cord had been streaming with my smart TV just through the Internet, but there again paying $200 a month and could hardly find anything worth washing decided to go with an antenna which I have done a few times over the years, knowing that I never get even 6 channels and of course, two of those are the HSN. No local news. Nothing and I have tried some pretty big outdoor antennas. I wasn’t expecting much from this little indoor antenna, they cost only 20 something dollars but to my amazement. I actually have 38 channels now which for most people probably would not be satisfied with that, but going from four channels that I never could find anything to watch to having a teen where I can actually catch the local news and weather and some other channels that are actually entertaining. Definitely give a five star very pleased and happy with my little antenna. Who knows I might move it around a little. To see if I can pick up even more.

Havia lido "O Espetáculo das Raças" antes e, a meu ver, esta obra, mais sintética e menos acadêmica, além de atualíssima, apresenta um complemento e um aprofundamento crítico da obra anterior. Aqui, a autora, mais uma vez, usa de pesquisa historiográfica para ilustrar sua tese, que possui fundo histórico, antropológico e sociológico, de que a violência faz parte das relações sociais brasileiras "desde sempre", naturalizada no cotidiano e permeando nossa cultura em todos os níveis e espaços possíveis.

Antes de começar a avaliação do livro, vou dizer que tudo deu certo na entrega, chegou dentro do prazo que já era bem rápido e veio sem danos.
Bom, o que posso dizer além de que esse livro é incrível, uma obra de arte? Antes de ler, vi muitas opiniões divergentes sobre a leitura, muitas pessoas falando mal do livro etc. Mas devo dizer que não fiquei nenhum pouco confusa em relação a minha opinião sobre A cantiga de pássaros e serpentes; simplesmente amei. Bom, sempre apreciei de forma inexplicável a escrita da Suzzane Collins, a trilogia de Jogos Vorazes é perfeita e a narração da Suzzane só melhora, e nesse livro não é diferente. Tendo isso em mente, dividi minha avaliação em tópicos que quero ressaltar, porque se não fizesse isso essa avaliação seria 3x maior do que já é.
1- O personagem principal é o conhecido Coriolanus Snow, presidente de Panem durante os Jogos Vorazes da Katniss, mas nesse livro temos uma visão 64 anos antes, durante os décimos Jogos Vorazes/ fim da adolescência de Snow. Ele é um protagonista extremamente interessante e complexo, nós vemos seus desvios de caráter já existentes na adolescência mas ao mesmo tempo nem de perto tão fortes e maléficos quanto quando ele é apresentado aos leitores como presidente. Além de ele trazer reflexões muito válidas e profundas, ele nos faz avaliar as coisas pelos olhos dele, as vezes de modo que nos faz compreendê-lo e outras vezes de modo a achá-lo supremacista e insano. Ver ele em sua fase “pré-vilão” é também muito interessante, ter um antagonista como principal em si já faz da leitura muito diferente e apreciável, agora um personagem calculista como Coriolanus nos traz ainda mais riqueza na leitura.
2- Nesse livro são inseridos nas situações muitas reflexões filosóficas e sociológicas, principalmente, como nos conteúdos de Estado Natural e Contrato Social, principalmente com toda a evolução dos Jogos Vorazes, o livro te faz pensar muito em relação ao estudo e ainda traz isso de modo leve e pertinente a história. Esse livro é muito rico e poderia com toda certeza ser usado como leitura/ estudo em aulas de sociologia, sendo uma leitura ou só mesmo uma discussão mais informal para compreender de forma mais dinâmica conceitos sociológicos, tão bem aplicados nas situações do livro e no personagem principal.
3- O livro deixa, propositalmente, várias pontas soltas que dão a tudo um ar mais misterioso, perigoso e curioso, mistérios não respondidos, dúvidas plantadas e muito a ser explorado num segundo livro, pelo como praticamente devorei esse livro (na medida do possível, claro) que ficaria extremamente feliz em ler mais 500 páginas dele para saber de tudo o que aconteceu e ter mais detalhes de como tudo desenrolou até o tempo da Katniss.
4- São feitas muitas conexões à trilogia dos Jogos Vorazes e até mesmo a própria Katniss de maneira indireta, o que torna ainda mais interessante essa leitura deste prequel. Tentar entender o que leva o futuro a acontecer é muito envolvente, mesmo as respostas sendo menores do que as perguntas que criamos durante a própria leitura, e de minha parte, já foram criadas várias teorias da conspiração envolvendo desde a árvore genealógica da Katniss até o desenvolvimento e criação do que chegamos a conhecer como a instituição do Distrito 13.
Bom, acho que esses são os pontos principais, poderia falar muito mais e discutir vários outros pontos com vários spoilers, inclusive. Mas como eu disse, ficaria extenso demais. A leitura é muito mais que valida, o livro se destaca entre vários que li, recomendo a todos e acredito que os leitores de Jogos Vorazes que souberam compreender os aspectos mais importantes da trilogia vão se apaixonar por esse livro, assim como eu me apaixonei.

Inicialmente, achei a narrativa um pouco truncada, uma vez que o primeiro livro de "Fundação" foi escrito a partir da combinação de cinco contos publicados em uma revista. Mas, isso não me aborreceu, porque fui "fisgado"pelo autor, justamente pela maneira ousada e inovadora de Asimov de inserir em suas obras conceitos de diversas áreas do conhecimento humano.
Achei fascinante em "Fundação" a criação da chamada psico-história, que encontra ressonância na epóca atual, uma mistura de cálculos matémáticos e psicologia, que na obra é aplicada para fazer uma estimativa sobre a duração dos períodos de crise do chamado "Império". O autor defende a ideia de que, apesar dos constantes avanços tecnológicos, o homem sempre terá um impulso incontrolável para provocar atos terríveis associados á bárbarie e a violência, capazes de causar a aniquilação em massa da população.
Por falar em "Império", enquanto lia "Fundação", encontrei vários pontos vários pontos de aproximação entre essa obra com outra famosa série do cinema, também inserida na FC: "Star Wars". Posso afirmar que o "buiding word " dos filmes de George Lucas tem suas origens e foi profundamente "inspirado" - para não dizer copiado de "Fundação" !
Na série de Assimov, assim como nas produções de Lucas, temos uma confederação de planetas ameaçada por um perigo misterioso, traquinas tecnológicas, naves espaciais movidas á velocidade da luz, que circulam no espaço com grandes tripulações, e, principalmente intrigas políticas envolvendo o tal poderoso Império que estão relacionadas com a misteriosa "Fundação" (ou seria mais de uma?).
Gostei muito da forma como "Fundação" se desenvolve, principalmente o segundo volume, no qual ocorrem eventos que podem surpreender o leitor. Além disso, na série também se destaca a presença de duas personagens femininas muito fortes - um aspecto pouco trabalhado pelo autor em algumas de suas obras-, e que desempenham um papel importante na trama.
Para mim, a leitura da trilogia foi uma leitura prazerosa e envolvente. Apesar da escrita do autor não ser perfeita e, ás vezes parecer um pouco anacrônica na descrição de alguns elementos relacionados com a FC, - devido a época, afinal trata-se de uma obra da década de cinquenta-, ela nunca se tornou cansativa. Além disso, o autor nos reserva uma instigante surpresa no final sobre o que vem a ser na realidade "A Fundação" - para isso será necessário ler a última linha, uma revelação tão bem "sacada", que me deixou com um sorriso no rosto.
É por sua originalidade, principalmente na forma como descreve eventos de forma verossímil dentro de uma perspectiva científica, sociológica e até mesmo filosófica, que a série "Fundação" vale a pena ser lida. Para mim é uma das mais importantes obras dentro do gênero da FC e sua vasta influência pode ser vista na literatura, no cinema e nas histórias em quadrinhos.
Obs.: A edição que li é da editora Aleph e tem excelente qualidade. Ela tem capa dura, alguns extras interessantes, incluindo uma entrevista de Asimov, um belo designer gráfico e réune as três edições que compõem a obra, a saber: "Fundação", "Fundação e Império" e "Segunda Fundação".
Asimov entrou para lista dos meus autores favoritos por sua imaginação que parece não ter limites, principalmente na configuração de cenários interplanetários. Sem dúvidas, Isaac Asimov é um autor visionário, muito além de seu tempo que deu significativas contribuições para os rumos da FC moderna.
